Relationships & Kinship.
(00:00-00:05) Why do we have relations? Elder's teachings on relationships- a child knows from birth, parents, grandparents, (children without parents are raised by other members of extended family, they grow up calling that family their parents). Native people are all related, even if they are not related in blood, (eg- war buddies, close friends in other tribes camped together, they are related because they are one Nation. As Native people we have many things in common, spirituality, customs and traditions, relationships are sacred. Unions between blood relations was not allowed, your children would suffer, teach children these things when young. "Pastowina" sins of today's white influences, make our children forget these relationship values, parents role are not being met to teach the young people the old ways. Long ago, relations were created through inter-tribal unions (marriages) (Saulteaux). (00:05-00:49).
